Push piers are heavy steel shafts that we hydraulically drive through the moving clay and fill until they bear on something solid that will not shift, usually bedrock or a very dense load-bearing layer. Once they are locked in, we transfer the weight of your home onto those piers and carefully raise the foundation back toward level. In Johnson County and the south side of the metro, this is one of the most common permanent repairs we install on settling homes.

We bracket steel tubes to your foundation footing and drive them hydraulically — using the weight of the structure itself — until each pier reaches refusal. Refusal means the pier stops advancing because it has hit soil or bedrock with enough bearing capacity to hold the weight above. We do not stop at a depth target. We stop at refusal. Then we transfer the foundation load onto the piers and lift as much as the structure allows.
Kansas City sits on heavy expansive clay that shifts constantly. The only way to stop a settling foundation permanently is to bypass that clay and transfer the load to something stable below it. Push piers do exactly that. Once installed, they do not rely on the surface clay at all. The foundation load bypasses the problematic soil entirely and rests on bedrock or a deep bearing stratum. There is nothing left to settle.
